About this event

The Alder River Festival is Townora's biggest community celebration, transforming the riverbank into a day-long gathering of music, food, sport and family fun. Locals and visitors come together every year to enjoy the river that gives the town its character.

Two stages will feature local bands, school choirs and community dance groups throughout the day. A food market along River Walk brings together dozens of local vendors, and a family zone offers face painting, craft workshops and games for younger children.

Program

  • Gates open and food market opens - 12:00 pm
  • Community stage performances begin - 1:00 pm
  • Dragon boat heats begin - 2:00 pm
  • Dragon boat final - 4:30 pm
  • Evening live music on the main stage - 6:00 pm
  • Fireworks over the river - 8:15 pm
  • Festival close - 9:00 pm

Getting there

River Walk will be closed to traffic for the day. A free shuttle will run every 15 minutes between the railway station and the main entrance, and bicycle parking is available at both ends of the foreshore. Parking near the festival is limited, so we strongly encourage public transport, walking or cycling.

Accessibility

  • Step-free paths throughout the festival site
  • Accessible viewing areas and parking near the north gate
  • Accessible toilets and a quiet space away from the stages
  • Free ear protection available for children from the information tent

The dragon boat race

Community teams from workplaces, schools and sports clubs compete in the festival's much-loved dragon boat race. Spectators can watch from the grassy slope beside the old boathouse, where commentary is broadcast throughout the heats.

Plan your day

Bring a blanket or folding chair, a refillable water bottle and warm layers for the evening. Dogs on leads are welcome during the day but not near the fireworks viewing area. For updates on the day, call 311 or check this page.
