About this event

Community Tree Day is a hands-on morning where neighbours of all ages gather to plant native trees and shrubs in Creekside Park. No experience is needed, and everything you need to get started is provided on site.

This year's planting focuses on locally native trees, shrubs and groundcovers that provide food and shelter for birds and insects, and that help stabilise the creek bank. Each planting is mapped, so you can return later in the year to see how your tree is growing.

Program

  • Registration and welcome - 8:00 am
  • Planting demonstration - 8:20 am
  • Planting begins - 8:40 am
  • Morning tea - 10:30 am
  • Final planting and mulching - 11:00 am
  • Group photo and thank you - 11:45 am

Getting there

Creekside Park is at the end of Creek Road, with the main entrance beside the footbridge. Parking is limited, so we encourage walking, cycling or carpooling, and a bicycle rack is located near the registration tent. The planting area is a five-minute walk from the nearest bus stop.

Accessibility

  • Step-free path from the entrance to the registration tent
  • Accessible toilets on site
  • Seated planting stations and lightweight tools available
  • Quiet area under the shade tent for anyone who needs a break

What to bring

Wear sturdy closed shoes and clothes that can get muddy, and bring a water bottle, a hat and sunscreen. Spades, gloves and seedlings are supplied, and experienced volunteers are on hand to guide beginners and children.

Groups and families

Families and school groups are welcome. Groups of ten or more are asked to register by calling 311 so we can assign a planting zone. Morning tea is provided once the planting is done.
